Amani Lazima

August 18th, 2011, Nairobi— Huruma youth are busy applying their creative talents to the task of educating fellow youth on living together peacefully.

On this day (August 20th, 2011) they will showcase their talents through workshops, graffiti, open Mic, fashion show and other performances designed to highlight and enhance the role of the youth in the fight against tribalism, drug abuse, among others.

Sarakasi Trust in conjunction with the Norwegian Embassy is hosting peace events dubbed Amani Lazima (Peace is A must!). These are monthly events held between December 2010 and November 2011 in some of the major slums in Nairobi. So far Amani Lazima has successfully covered Korogocho, Mathare, Kangemi, Kawangware, Kibera, Dandora and Majengo.

Together with on the ground stakeholders and (grassroots) youth organizations the aim is to approach the youth of the informal settlements and involve them in activities that are designed to reach out to interest the youth, create a positive attitude, generate self-esteem, promote peace and understanding, a feeling of ownership and to empower the youth on issues like entrepreneurship, violence, gender issues, etc.

Amani Lazima invites the public to Huruma Sports Grounds on 20th August 2011 from 8am-4.30pm to enjoy and appreciate the efforts of Huruma youth in the fight against tribalism, drug abuse, and violence among others during this special event dubbed Amani Lazima. We will have special women empowerment workshops with special guests including Baffu Chaffu, Candi A2,KTI Dancers, ODK & ALAMA, Sarakasi dancers among others are invited.
