Nairobi July 30th 2011 – Susan Anyango  was crowned Miss World Kenya 2011 during the Nestea Miss World Kenya 2011 pageant held at the Oak Place Centre in Nairobi on Saturday night.

Although over 120 delegates were expected to compete, problems regarding the timely acquisition of visas prevented several candidates from participating, thus reducing the final number to 113.

Susan who comes from Githurai, Nairobi was crowned after the judges all agreed that she was the fairest of them all and with the best brains to represent Kenya. This year, scouting was done in 9 counties with a total of 4,177 showing up for auditions.

Only 54 of them got to be shortlisted and a further trimming saw 34 join the academy. In a period of 4 weeks, 17 of the contestants lost their places by elimination paving way for 16 finalists to compete for title which ended up Susan Anyango’s.

She said all her efforts will now be directed  to fighting cancer. “My mother is my role model and died too early because of cancer” she said.

“I vow to fight this killer disease,” Susan said.

Susan takes over from Natasha Metto who was Miss World Kenya 2010.

She will represent Kenya in Miss World 2011 Pageant which will be held in London at the end of October this year.
