At 12 Years, Shes Africa’s Best Tennis Player

May 10th 2011- At 12 years old, she is among the top 100 best tennis players.

The Standard 7 pupil in Kondele Primary School played 2 legs of the last month’s International Tennis Federation/ Confederation of African Tennis.

She is now  seting her eyes on the Under East Africa Circuit set to kick off in Rwanda and Burundi mid August.

Kisumu based Victoria Tennis Academy ace, Linda Janet has top 100 position in Africa Girls Singles 14 and Under category.

The latest ranking released by the governing body of Tennis in the continent, Confederation of Africa Tennis (CAT) saw the 12 years old, Linda Janet falling in Position 84 in the continent.

“I am very happy that I now being ranked in the Continent” said Linda Janet who is a Standard 7 pupil in Kondele Primary School.

Janet thanked her coaches, Collins Agwanda and Kenneth Odhiambo for having nurtured her talent. “I also thank Kisumu Town East, Member of Parliament, Hon. Shakeel Shabbir for his continued support he has been giving Victoria Academy” added Janet.

Janet who played 2 legs of the last month’s International Tennis Federation/ Confederation of African Tennis (ITF/CAT) 14/12 and Under East Africa Junior Circuit Kenya Leg in Nairobi is also ranked Number 2 in both Girls Under18, Under 16 and Under 14 behind talented Mariah Okong’o who is a standard 7 pupil in Migosi Primary School where Victoria is based.

Talented Janet now eyes to play two legs of ITF/CAT 14/12 and Under East Africa Circuit set to serve off in Rwanda and Burundi mid August. She will be accompany by Ricky Omondi, Noble Mungu, John Onyango and Boon Amollo alongside Maria Okong’o and Michelle Onjiko.

Victoria Tennis Academy Founder Director, Collins Agwanda said he is very happy that Linda has become the first Girl from his academy to be ranked by Confederation of African Tennis adding that his academy is envisioned to take players to the major Grandslams, Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) and Women Tennis Association (WTA) Tours. Meanwhile, a total of 30 players will represent Kisumu based Victoria Tennis Academy in the Inter Schools Racket Games Championship set to serve off in Kakamega Town between 27-29 May 2011.

While naming the squad for the event, Academy Founder Director Collins Agwanda said the selection was done inline with the previous performance of the players during the Safaricom Kisumu Open Tennis Championship held in early April.

“Majority of players are beginners in tennis and we want to expose their talents through the tournament” said Agwanda.

The event which shall have lawn tennis, badminton and table tennis will take place in Kakamega Sports Club.

Schools expected in the tournament include; Victoria Tennis Academy, Kisumu Boys, Butere Girls, Lugulu Girls, Ingotse Boys,Chesamisi High, Tigoi Girls, St.Peters Mumias, Kapropita Girls, Moi Girls Eldoret, Chesamisi Boys, Bungoma Boys, St.Mary’s Kibabii, Moi Girls Vokoli, Kakamega High,Chwele Girls, Kisumu Junior Academy, Migosi Primary, Kondele Primary and many more.
