Nyeri, April 27, 2011 – Born woman has been hailed as “amazing” after she did what many before her could not accomplish.

Even as Nyeri Municipal Council mourns the death of this amazing woman, she leaves behind a hero status after transforming Nyeri into a green haven.

It was during her tenure as a nominated councilor that Nyeri Municipal Council received an award of being the cleanest town in the country.

Shock has gripped residents of Nyeri town, in Central Province after the demise of former Nyeri nominated councilor known to residents there are Mama Maua.

Many were the times she got a standing ovation in various events for her dedication to make Nyeri town a better place for all during her tenure as a nominated councilor.

Elizabeth Wairimu Wamunyu will remain in the mind of many people who knew her as Mama Maua.

Her nick name was coined for her campaign to beautify Nyeri town through planting of flowers, trees and construction of several parks with nice benches to rest on.

The saying that “Actions speaks louder than words” fits the late Mrs Wamunyu than many other people in the area.

The parks that are today the admiration of Nyeri town residents are a product of her work for the five years when she was the chairman environment in Nyeri council.

The beauty of flowers and cleanliness of Nyeri town has a lot to do with her. It has not been easy for her to turn Nyeri town into one of the cleanest towns in the country during her time.

However, despite the obstacles, her efforts earned Nyeri Municipal Council an award of being the cleanest town in the country.

The late Elizabeth Wamunyu believed that the work she did during her time will be remember by many who visit and the area residents. She believed that she was there to serve the residents without fear or favour.

During her tenure in the office, Wamunyu invited other like minded partners to build permanent benches at Whispers Park, Sungura Parks that has now turned to be a resting place after day long work for many.

Though she has gone, a family woman will be remembered for the work she did while in Nyeri municipal council.
