Policeman Rapes Minor, Seeks Herbalist To Terminate Pregnancy

Bungoma, April 14, 2011 – At Women eNews Kenya, we will never get tired to inform you about the beastly act of rapists, in their quest for justice, Kenyan women are not getting the help they need from police investigators and prosecutors.

Police prosecutors carry out most prosecutions before subordinate courts where most sexual offences are prosecuted.

This case involve a policeman who have the guts to even threaten to kill if his beastly act is revealed.

A woman from Sang’alo area, Bungoma South district, Bungoma County  is calling upon the human rights commission, government and NGOs to intervene in a case in which her 16-year-old daughter was allegedly defiled by a police officer.

The woman, Christen Webala alleges that the policeman then threatened to kill her daughter if she reported the incident.

Narrating to KNA, Webala said her daughter who is now in standard eight was tested in January and found to be pregnant.

Webala added that in February, the police officer and his brother took the girl from home and off they went to a herbalist where the pregnancy was terminated.

She says the girl has now developed complications.

She wants the policeman arrested so that he can also ensure proper medical treatment for her daughter whose education and future now hangs in the balance.

Policeman Charged  _______________________________________

Nyeri 15th April 2011 – A police officer alleged to have defiled a minor while in cell at Witima police post in Othaya appeared before a Nyeri court today charged with defilement.

Boniface Chacha was charged that on April 8 2011 at Witima police post in Nyeri south district within Nyeri County he intentionally had canal knowledge of a child aged between 16 and 18 years.

He faced an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child by intentionally touching her breast and her private parts.

He also faced a second count of abuse of his position, that on the same day and date he took advantage of his position as a police officer and defiled the minor in the police cells within the limits of the station to which he is appointed.

The accused who appeared before Chief magistrate Stella Muketi pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

He was represented by his lawyer Wahome Gikonyo who asked the court to supply him with the witness statements and copies of the charge sheet.

He also requested the court to release the accused with cash bail adding that he will be availing himself in court when needed.

Muketi released the accused with a cash bail of sh 30,000 and fixed the hearing date on May 13th with a mention on April 29.

By the time of going to press the accused had not raised the cash bail.
