Orange Girls remains buoyant this Season

Nairobi, April 6, 2011 – The Orange Ladies Hockey team is promising yet another season of wins as this year’s hockey league gains momentum.

Coach Jos Openda said they are already reaping the benefits of an expanded technical bench at the beginning of the year; to take on other teams in what is now proving to be a very competitive season.

Openda added, “The inclusion of the former team captain and veteran national goalkeeper Josephine Ataro, experienced players Rose Mbulo, Betty Tioni and Jackline Ogot, has injected new energy into the team that has led the league since 2008, with no defeats recorded since”.

The team plays against Sliders this Saturday at 2pm, on their second match this season. The Orange girls opened the season with a historic 22 goal win against newcomers Daystar University. Openda however said they are not berating Sliders and other teams this season.

“We have noted that teams have recruited new players and intensified their training this year, and we are determined to widen our lead in the league this year”, he said.

The Orange side recruited new players this year and Coach Openda said they have blended in well with the team.

Among the new players is Barbara Simiyu who previously turned out for USIU-A, who will be featuring in the Saturday match that begins at 2pm.

Other players who’ll be fielded in the match include the former goalkeeper of the national Under-16 team; Cynthia Onyango who previously turned out for Lwak Girls High School, and Ruth Njoki, Sarah Bonareri, Lucy Waguthi and Nancy Wanjui, who were among the star players at Kerugoya Girls Secondary School.

The new line up also features Tracy Nungari who was in the St. Georges High School team and defender Mercy Khayeli who was in Misihu High school.
