Our Husbands Cross To Uganda, Drink The Whole Day

March 21st 2011- Teso women have petitioned the East African Legislative Assembly over the drinking habits of their husbands and appealed for harmonization of drinking hours between Kenya and Uganda to save their marriages.

A member of the Liquor Licensing board, Beatrice Sausau stunned the chairman of EALA’s Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution Committee, Abdul Karim Hartelimana from Rwanda when she narrated how their husbands had failed in their matrimonial responsibilities.

“Mr Chairman, our husbands cross to Uganda and drink the whole day owing to the punitive alcohol laws in Kenya. When they return in the evening they are drunk and too weak to perform in bed,” she said to the chagrin of men who drowned her speech.

Speaking during a meeting of EALA members and stakeholders from Kenya and Uganda at Malaba Town Council hall, Ms Sausau said some of the men who arrive back from Uganda after 5pm were a nuisance after ordering for beers despite being drunk and failing to foot their bills.

Teso Chamber of Commerce chairman, Fred Papa told the regional assembly to intervene and have Kenya reverse the order on drinking hours at border points which attracts all visitors including Europeans whose meal goes with a beer.

Labour Assistant Minister, Sospeter Ojaamong said the Mututho law was meant to introduce responsible drinking and challenged Teso leaders to put up top class hotels which are exempted from such punitive laws, adding that there was always room for amendment to such laws.
