AMWIK Seeks Support

By AMWIK,  March 9, 2011

The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) is appealing to organizations including Government, corporates, donor agencies, banking institutions, non governmental organizations, institutions of higher learning, religious institutions and individuals to support the AMWIK Scholarship Fund aimed at helping Kenyan media women pursue further education.

A fundraising dinner is slated for 1st April 2011 at Intercontinental Hotel starting 6.00 p.m. in which over 300 guests are expected, with a target to raise over Ksh 2 million.

So far AMWIK has received support from Safaricom Limited amounting to Ksh 500,000  is appealing to wellwishers to donate to the kitty.

Contributions will go towards the AMWIK Scholarship Fund which was started in 2004 out of a need to improve women journalists’ chances to compete effectively for positions at decision making levels in media houses.

Over the last six years the fund has supported 18 women journalists to pursue higher education at local universities at both undergraduate and post graduate level.

  1. This is a great idea, I would like to post it on my blog however, I have concerns here. If there are people who wish to contribute and are not in Kenya or will not be in a position to attend the Dinner at Hilton, how can they contribute towards this worthy course?

And for the non- Amwik members how much is the dinner per person? Kindly add some details that will help well wishers know how to contribute towards this!

    All the best!

    Patience.

    • Dear Patience,
      Greetings from AWIK!
The dinner is going for Ksh 3,500 per person. It will be at Intercontinetal Hotel. Please see the AMWIK website for more information on the ways one can support this initiative.
      Best regards

  2. This is great! We need to support our women to further their education so that they can compete favourably in the job market. With the inactment of the new constitutions, opportunites for women have increased, therefore let not lack of adequate qualification be an impendement to getting jobs.

I do suggest that we provide clear avenues for all those willing to support to do so irrespective of the fact that they will not attend the dinner. What we need is money.

I support fully this wonderfull intiative.

    Sylvia
